The ambition for this project was to create a productive and deeply lived in garden around a bluestone home built in the 1870s. Existing materials became the starting point, with bluestone reclaimed from across the site and carefully reworked into new forms.

 

A tapestry of bluestone in different forms is woven throughout the garden. Reclaimed pitchers, rough blocks, sawn pieces and crushed aggregate are linked by layers of planting, creating continuity between old and new. Productive gardens, spaces for gathering and habitat for birds and insects sit comfortably alongside one another, ensuring the garden works hard while remaining generous in character.

 

Part restoration and part reinvention, the landscape respects the history of the site while creating a framework for the next chapter. Designed to mature over time, it is a garden that will continue to gather richness with each passing season.
